My Family
My name is Kim Vander Helm and I have been married for 12 wonderful years to Steve. God brought us into each others' lives later in life, and I thank God for the gift of Steve. He is truly God’s man for me and helps keep me grounded, which tightly wired people (like me) need. We have two children: Jeremiah (named prophetically) – age 10, and Rebekah – age 8; and we have a dog named “Champ”.My Hobbies
As a family we love to camp, ride bikes and hike. My favorite place to camp is the U.P. I find that God and I speak a lot up there; there’s not as much noise. My hobbies are reading and cross-stitching – oh, and picking up stones from the shores of Lake Superior. I’m kind of addicted to that.My Passion at Work
I cannot say that I am qualified to be the “Director of Children’s Ministries”, but I also know that God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called. He has placed a passion in my heart for children to know, love and serve Jesus Christ with all their hearts, minds and souls! I know that He has called me here for this time, and I only wish to do what He has set before me.
I strongly believe that the church is here not to educate the children in the faith, but to come alongside parents in their role as “Priests” of their own homes. We need to provide quality programming here at Lighthouse, but we also need to educate and encourage parents that teaching their children about Jesus Christ and a life lived for Him is their primary privilege and responsibility. This is my ultimate goal.
