Stand Alone Sermon: Labor Day

It seems these days that everybody is busy and everybody is tired! Many are overwhelmed by schedules and activities to the point that it affects their physical and mental health. So people crave REST! And most people look for rest in some kind of recreation, some “down time,” an opportunity to “get away.” Does any of this sound familiar? We’ve all been there, haven’t we? The problem is that rest seems hard to find. In fact, trying to find time or make time to rest can itself be stressful, and coming back from a time of recreation and returning to our “normal” schedule can produce even more stress and anxiety! What is the solution??? GOD’s rest!! Jesus offered rest to those who were His followers, but it was and is different than what the world offers. The world offers recreation, but God offers RE-creation! Jesus offers“rest for your soul!” Spiritual fatigue produces all kinds of symptoms and leaves people without hope for true change because the problem lies in the heart. If your heart is focused on yourself and/or the things of the world you will never find spiritual rest. You will forever be searching for something more, something different, some new idea or experience. But what you really need is GOD! You need to know Him, to trust Him, to love Him and to find rest in worshiping Him as you live with Him and for Him in your daily life. Nothing else will bring rest to your soul that is crying out for living water in a dry and thirsty land. Spiritual rest IS available … for those who answer Jesus’ call.
