We’re In This Together!
The sinful human nature does not like being told that it CAN’T do something!! If you tell people they can’t do something they will try everything in their power to do it. Such is the case with spiritual life. Many today are aware of their need and desire for something more than a merely physical life. You live … you die … the end! Attempting to find some meaning in life, many turn to religion, while others turn to various forms of personal “spirituality” where they seek some mysterious “connection” with “something” that may or may not be called “God.” This is the spiritual state of billions of people all around us and even of some in the church. Paul understood the pursuit of religion to fill the void of the human soul. He had found his purpose in life in living as a religious zealot, believing he was serving the God he believed in. Then he met Jesus!! By God’s grace the Spirit gave Paul new life and opened his heart and mind to the truth of the Gospel, that only through receiving the righteousness of Christ by faith could he be confident of his standing before God and of possessing true, eternal, spiritual life. Nothing else could or would do! From that time forward the Gospel of Jesus Christ was the “main thing” to Paul and the reason for his life and his ministry. Others needed to hear this truth and turn from the empty pursuit of righteousness through religion or by any other means! Like Paul, we need to “keep the main thing the main thing!” Apart from the Gospel, no one will receive God’s gift of eternal life. May God strengthen our resolve and commitment to preach and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ at every opportunity, knowing that it is still “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). Praise be to GOD!!!
