“WE EXIST TO PROCLAIM THE REIGN OF JESUS CHRIST OVER ALL THINGS; GLORIFYING AND ENJOYING GOD, NOW AND FOREVER!”

9 – Pressing Toward The Goal!

We’re In This Together!

“God has promised to give you the desires of your heart!” … so people quote a phrase from Psalm 37:4. But is that really what it says? It seems a little bit like giving someone a blank check, signed by God! We all know that even as believers we often desire things that would not be good for us, things that would satisfy the flesh, but that could and often do lead us to place our hope, our happiness and our hearts on earthly things and pursuits. Can this really be what God wants for us or what God has promised His children? Surely, there is something more to David’s words in Psalm 37 … and the answer is found in Paul’s words in Philippians 3! Paul wrote, “Whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ” (Philippians 3:7). He declared that he counted everything else as “rubbish … in order that I may gain Christ and be found in Him” (Philippians 3:8-9). And then he goes on to explain HIS heart’s desire: to be like Christ!!! Paul had come to realize that pursuing holiness, desiring to be like Christ, was the most important thing in this life. Everything else paled in comparison. Think of the goals we set for ourselves today and how shortsighted most, if not all of them are. God calls us to something higher, something more satisfying than anything this world has to offer! Have you believed in Jesus Christ?  Is your heart set on being like Him as you live in this world as one of His disciples? It is here that you will find the joy and assurance Paul experienced as the Spirit continues the work in you that He has begun. God will do what He has said He will do! “Bless the LORD, O my soul!”
