We’re In This Together!
“How many churches do you have in your town?” In our nation that is a common question for those moving into a new community. The answer, of course, usually includes all of the locations where Christians meet to worship and to engage in various religious activities. Few cities in the United States, even small ones, have only one church, and most have an entire smorgasbord of choices. How different than the early church, where there was only ONE “church,” only one assembly of believers, gathered to be taught the Word of God, to grow together, to build community together, to love and serve one another and to share the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others. In reality, there is only ONE Church today, made up of every true believer, every person who has been born again by the Spirit of God, who has confessed Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and who is now living in community with others who have done the same. So why all the divisions? Why all the “churches”??? Some want to work toward “unity” by ignoring any differences in order to come together and work together for Christ’s kingdom. But is that really “unity?” If there really is only ONE true Church, what is our calling as we seek to honor Christ, to glorify God and to testify to the world that Jesus Christ is Lord? How do we live together with other believers with whom we may have disagreements? God’s Word gives us the answers and in obeying Him we may be used by God to help ourselves and others see “the beauty of the Bride!”
