Pictures are nice, but they don’t tell the whole story. You can put a group of pictures together and they give you glimpses of a lifetime, but there are people and things and words and emotions that are not captured by a picture. The Bible is full of such “snapshots” and that is all many people see when reading through God’s Word. But there’s more!! Your life consists of seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years, strung together to make a lifetime. Some lives in this world are brief, some are longer. But even if you were to take a picture every day, or every hour, or even every minute, you would not capture the truth about your life. Only God can see the whole picture and only God knows the whole story! Even Elijah needed to understand the truth that God is in every picture. Even Elijah needed to learn that the story of his life was not really his story, but rather, GOD’s story. God was at work in ways that Elijah could not imagine … and so it is today! Knowing God is at work, that He is in every picture, brings peace and joy and hope and comfort to those who know Him through faith in Jesus Christ. Whether on the mountaintop or in the valley, God is in the picture and He is at work to accomplish His purpose in and through the lives of His people, and even through those who do not know Him. Such wisdom, such power, such love moves those who know Him as “‘Abba,’ Father,” to give thanks in the “good times” and to trust in the “hard times,” knowing that even when you can’t see Him, God is still in the picture!!
