THIS is Eternal Life!
Some things in the Bible are difficult to understand, but others are simple for those in whom the Spirit of God is at work. One of the simplest things ought to be the truth that humble repentance is a GOOD thing for the believer! God says that He “opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (Proverbs 3:34; James 4:6). In fact, James goes on to write, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you!” (James 4:10). Humility is more than a temporary state of mind that arises from the realization that you have done a few things wrong in your life that may have caused you some unpleasant consequences. Humility is a state of HEART that arises from the conviction of the Spirit that you are guilty before the holy God who created you and that you need to repent, to turn from sin to righteousness. Sadly, the human heart will not and cannot acknowledge its true condition and so attempts to defend itself rather than humble itself before the Lord. Only when the Spirit creates a new heart within you will humble repentance follow. Only then will you rejoice in God’s cleansing power, in His amazing grace, in His marvelous salvation in Christ Jesus! For the one who knows God as “‘Abba,’ Father,” there is always great value in humble repentance!!
