The Greatest of These Is Love

It has been said and repeated, “If you do not learn from history you are doomed to repeat it!” Why would that be true? Because human nature, without the Spirit of God, is caught in a vicious cycle of sin and rebellion against God. As the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 1:22-23: “Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images …” Idolatry takes many forms and in our country today idolatry has taken the form of an idea, a picture of God that is at best incomplete and at worst utterly false! “God is LOVE!” people declare from every possible corner of society. But the reality is that they have made their idea of “LOVE” to be their “god.” This “god” is “loving, tolerant and inclusive.” This “god” brings all people from all religions together because “love” is the universal language. Even the Bible, these say, agrees that “God is love!” In his unending desire to twist God’s truth and to deceive mankind Satan has a willing partner in the majority of the human race who, in their blindness, want to live in the darkness and imagine that the god they have created will “save” them and the planet. Standing in stark contrast to this imaginary god is the one true God who has revealed Himself in His Word to US, to those who have been born again by His Spirit. God has revealed His love in Jesus Christ and empowers us who believe to understand and to live in His love as we share His love with one another. SUCH love is from God and for God and brings glory to Him. Any other “love” is but another idol that distracts and deceives those who are living without hope and without God in the world. They need to hear and see the truth! And we who by God’s grace know what true love is must live and proclaim the truth!!
