THIS Is Eternal Life!
In case you haven’t noticed, the life Jesus calls His followers to live is radically different than the self-centered worldly life those without the Spirit of God pursue. Life for those who don’t know Jesus, who have not been born again, who live without the guidance of the Spirit through God’s Word, is a life lived for self … a life lived pursuing what makes the old nature happy. But self-centered living that is focused on finding happiness in the things and ways of the world does not produce true and lasting happiness! In what is called His “Sermon on the Plain,” Jesus outlines a life of blessing that comes from imitating Jesus. It finds joy in knowing that you are pleasing your Father in heaven, even though others hate you and ridicule you. This life turns the other cheek and shows mercy to others, bearing good fruit out of the good treasure of a heart that has been changed by the power of God. The life Jesus calls His disciples to live is a life that stands the test of time because its foundation is God’s unchangeable truth: To trust and obey leads to true joy and happiness! While many who cry, “Lord, Lord!” go their own way and do their own thing, THIS is the life Jesus calls His followers to live! THIS is the life that truly brings glory to God!!
