Six Marks of a Disciple
Coming to the end of a year and looking toward a new year most people want to believe there is a purpose for their lives, but few seem to be able to identify what it is!!! We who know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord have been given a purpose in the words Jesus spoke to His first disciples: “Follow Me!” Too many “Christians” today think that being a Christian means “believing in Jesus,” but do not understand that to BELIEVE means more than merely saying you believe some facts ABOUT Jesus; it means hearing His call to “follow” Him and making a heartfelt commitment to obeying His commands. Jesus called the first disciples and others to repent, to turn aside from the things of this world in order to live a new life, a different life, by the power of His Spirit who would now be at work within them. He calls us to this new life and reveals that it is in obedience to His commands that we find our purpose in life! The “Six Marks of a Disciple” are based on what Jesus called the two “great commandments,” and what has been called the “great commission,” to go and make more disciples … to multiply. Today we will review all six of these marks and in the following weeks, we will take a closer look at each one. Our goal is that you will use this outline as a framework for your life, realizing that everything you do fits into one or more of these “marks.” As we head into the new year you can have no greater goal than to GROW as a disciple of Jesus by conforming your life to the life of Jesus. It is our prayer that these “marks of a disciple” will help you to focus on what GOD wants your life to look like. Here is the purpose for life that everyone is looking for!!
