First Sunday of Advent: “REAL Love!”
It may seem that the theme of God’s love in Christ has been explored so often that we should not need to continue explaining it, especially to those who are the beneficiaries of His amazing love through faith in Jesus. However, understanding God’s love in Christ is so necessary and so foundational in the life of every true believer that it could be said to be impossible to fully comprehend, always leaving room for a deeper awareness of what it means to be “so loved by God!” In a world where the word “love” is thrown around like candy, and overused to the point of being meaningless, God’s love in Christ is a concrete expression of the very character of God toward His chosen children. God’s love toward His elect is more than a brief infatuation or a conditional offer that may at any moment be withdrawn. God’s love in Christ is, to use a word, “intentional” … it comes with the full intention of God to fulfill all He has promised, knowing He has the wisdom and the power to do all He has determined to do. There is no power that can oppose Him, no power greater than His that can prevent Him from accomplishing His purpose. The salvation of His elect hangs in the balance, and God will allow nothing to thwart His plan. Knowing this, all who believe must and will rejoice in the gift of God’s love as we celebrate the birth of Jesus and throughout the year. The salvation of believers rests in God’s love from beginning to end. May you be filled to overflowing with the knowledge of God’s love in Christ FOR YOU!!!
