You are a spiritual being living in a physical world. If you have been born again by the Spirit, you have acknowledged Jesus Christ as Lord. You know that one day every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that truth. You have the privilege of doing it now! As a disciple of Jesus, you are a citizen of His heavenly kingdom, even as you live in this world. Therefore, you are obligated to live in this world as a representative of Jesus Christ. All of that means that whatever God has revealed to believers in His Word is to be heard, believed and lived out, for His glory. Romans 13 must be understood as part of God’s instruction to those who know Jesus as Lord. In that context, God calls His people to a godly submission to authority, whether in the government, in the home, at work, or elsewhere. Living under the reign of Jesus Christ means recognizing that obedience to His commands applies to every area of life. As a Christian, you are living in this world in anticipation of the time when Jesus Christ will reign as King during the Millennium, and ultimately when God will dwell with us in the new heavens and the new earth! Because believers have confessed Jesus Christ as Lord, we must always be seeking God’s wisdom and God’s will as we make decisions each and every day. That requires reading and studying God’s Word, learning what He desires, as Paul wrote in Romans 12:2: “ … that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Pray often for wisdom. Hear what God says. Learn how to apply His truth to your daily life, and live for the glory of God, because JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!!!
