“WE EXIST TO PROCLAIM THE REIGN OF JESUS CHRIST OVER ALL THINGS; GLORIFYING AND ENJOYING GOD, NOW AND FOREVER!”

4 – “The Triumphant Return!” (Stand Alone Sermon)

Stand Alone Sermon

What was is not now. What is now is not what will be. Time passes. Things change. You can only live one day at a time, and no one knows what tomorrow will bring … except GOD!! As Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the colt of a donkey most of the people saw only what their eyes could see. They may have thought about what they had heard about Jesus and some of the miracles He had performed in other places. He had certainly gained a “reputation.”  But as they cried, “Hosanna to the Son of David!  Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!,” they could not know what was about to happen and what it would mean. God’s revelation was progressive. Living on this side of the cross we know that it was all part of God’s plan to bring salvation to those who would believe in Jesus. We know that the cross was necessary to atone for sin, to pay the penalty we owed in order for forgiveness to be proclaimed in Jesus’ name. But there is so much MORE that we know … because God has told us in His Word!  Because the Spirit of God inspired the writers of the New Testament to reveal God’s plan, we who believe in Jesus today know what was, what is and what will be!! We know that Jesus came the first time to go to the cross, to rise again and to ascend into heaven, returning to the glory He knew before He came to earth and took upon Himself a human nature in order to redeem us. We know that Jesus is reigning now at the Father’s right hand, building His Church by His Word and Spirit, as He gathers a remnant from every people, tribe, nation and tongue. AND, we know what Jesus WILL do when He returns, for “He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet!” (I Corinthians 15:25). Jesus is reigning NOW, and JESUS IS COMING AGAIN!! On this Palm Sunday, it is good to look back, but we must also look at what IS, and at what WILL BE when Jesus returns, for there is where we find our hope and our joy! Time passes. Things change. But God’s plan is unfolding just as He said, and “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever!” (Hebrews 13:8). He was a King then. He is a King now. And He will be a King … THE King … “the King of kings and the Lord of lords,” when He returns!!
