“You Are My Witnesses!”
God doesn’t make mistakes! He doesn’t start something and then not finish it. That includes His work in those whom He chooses to be His children through faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus promised that He would send His Spirit to perform the work of regeneration within those whom the Father had given Him. We are, by grace, “new creations in Christ Jesus” (II Corinthians 5:17). Paul wrote to the Philippians with confidence that “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). True faith is, therefore, always accompanied by true repentance … a change of heart and mind toward sin and toward righteousness. Because Jesus IS Lord, true believers not only receive Jesus as Savior, but also acknowledge Him as Lord, as their Master. While we are freed from the curse of the Law, we are freed not FROM obedience to God, but rather, TO obedience! This pattern of faith, repentance and obedience is seen throughout the Bible. Turning from sin to righteousness is evidence of the Spirit’s work in the lives of all who truly believe. Our assurance of salvation comes from trusting in Christ for forgiveness and from seeing a commitment to serve Christ as a disciple, as one who has been saved by grace through faith. This is what it means to “believe in Jesus.” May the Spirit of God use His Word even today to accomplish His work in us, His children!!
