“Wisdom to Live By!”

Lying causes all kinds of problems. Everyone knows that! Yet for those without the Spirit of God and faith in Jesus Christ, lying seems at times more convenient or easier than simply being honest and telling the truth. Even those who are born again and in whom the Spirit is working can be deceived by the old nature into believing that dishonesty avoids conflict and hides their mistakes and their sins. Of course, that is never the case. Lying and other kinds of dishonesty only postpone the inevitable consequences of sin or even of “honest mistakes.” Satan works in the darkness and leads people to believe his lies so that they will feel guilt and shame and hide from God and from each other. Trust is broken and relationships flounder all because there is not enough “speaking the truth in love!” God’s way is best! “Honesty is the best policy” because God says so!! God shines the light of His Word upon us not to blind us or to hurt us, but rather, to expose the darkness and to lead us into the light of His presence where there is peace and joy. Our Father in heaven calls us to be honest in our relationship with Him AND to be honest in our relationships with others. Because we live in this broken world where we are continually dealing with imperfection, both our own and that of others, we will all experience conflict, disappointment and frustration, along with a host of other emotions. The solution is drawing near to God through Christ, confessing your sin, and then drawing near to those with whom you have relationships and doing what God says to do: Be honest!!
