‘From Eden … to the Cross!’
God wants His people to KNOW Him! When talking about “revelation,” most people think only about the last book of the Bible: “The Revelation of John.” In reality, the entire Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to His people. Creation itself testifies to its Creator, but the Bible is God’s “special revelation,” given to a specific group of people who are given His Spirit to enable them to understand what God has revealed and to KNOW God, first as our Creator, but also as our Savior and Lord. After all, Jesus declared, “This is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent!” (John 17:3). God wants His people to KNOW Him! That was God’s purpose in the confrontation between King Ahab and the false prophets of the gods the people of Israel were worshiping, and Elijah, the true prophet of God, that took place on Mt. Carmel. The king and the people needed to know that the LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, is God, and there is no other. They needed to understand that God will not share His glory, and the honor and worship that is due to Him alone, with any other so-called “gods.” What was true then is true today. While many claim that all religions are alike and that there are many gods to choose from, the one true God, the LORD, “Yahweh,” the great “I AM,” is not only offended, but rises as Judge to execute judgment on those who reject Him. Like Elijah, those who KNOW God must be willing to confront evil, to stand firm against it and to remain steadfast when trials and persecution come. “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).
