THIS is Eternal Life!
Millions of people in our country and more than two BILLION people around the world claim to be Christians, to be followers of Jesus Christ, to believe in the God who reveals Himself in His Word, the Bible. Yet statistics show that fewer than one-fourth worship regularly and even fewer believe that obedience to God’s commands found in Scripture is necessary or beneficial as we live in the world today. It appears that most would qualify to receive the label of “spiritually apathetic.” To be apathetic is to be without feeling, without zeal, without passion. As we approach the annual remembrance of Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection, how can we avoid the trend towards spiritual apathy? Looking at the history of the people of Israel and Judah reveals the spiritual rollercoaster of those without the Spirit of God. Their failure to know God, to seek the LORD, to worship Him and to obey Him led to their half-hearted devotion to God. They didn’t care … until God brought His judgment. Avoiding spiritual apathy requires faith, worship, and obedience. Pray that our Father in heaven will show us His favor and continue His work in us by His Spirit so that we resist the temptation of spiritual apathy!
