Romans: “The Gospel of Jesus Christ: Hear It! Believe It! Live It!”
Have you noticed that no matter how many times we hear God calling us to live our lives with HIM at the center, we still somehow manage to make it about US?!! Even when Christians gather to worship God, it often becomes more about what pleases people than what pleases God. And when people pray, who is usually the center of attention?? ME!! What do I need? What do I want God to do? It seems increasingly difficult to find people who are willing to work together to “make it all about God!” Yet this is the very purpose of the Church, God’s “called-out assembly!” We are called to worship God, to set our hearts and minds on Him, to serve Him and to make Him known. The very purpose of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to declare the holiness of God. In so doing the truth of sin is exposed and the holy justice of God is revealed. That leads to the cross of Jesus Christ as the only payment for sin and to the call of the Gospel to repent and believe, to turn from self to acknowledging Jesus Christ as Lord! We live in God’s world, and from the beginning God has chosen a remnant of people, revealing Himself to these chosen ones, in order that we might live to declare His glory and to make Him known!! “Church” is not a place or a thing! The true Church, people who know God, love God and serve God, is God’s chosen instrument today to reveal His glory. Very soon, God will once again use the Jews, His chosen race, to declare His glory among the nations of the world, but until then it must be the goal of every true believer to “make it all about God!” How do you do that? What does that look like in your life? As he comes to the end of his long letter to the Romans, Paul commends them and ends where he began, by calling them to “the obedience of faith” for the glory of God. May we hear God’s call to do the same!!
