Living in the very presence of God is not possible in our present condition. God cannot dwell in the midst of sin and evil, and though saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, even we who believe must await the final step in our salvation, when our bodies are raised incorruptible and God dwells with us in the new heavens and the new earth. UNTIL then, however, God gives us good news by revealing how to live with Him and know that He is with us as we live in this world. The temple, and the tabernacle before it, was a symbol of the presence of God with His people. Through the sacrifices and ceremonies, the people were able to draw near to God to worship Him. But then, through Jesus’ death and resurrection and the pouring out of His Spirit, a new reality appeared as the Spirit came to live within those whom God chose to be His people. We now become the “living temple” where God dwells by His Spirit, living to worship God by the power of our risen and exalted Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, who is seated at the Father’s right hand! And there’s more!! “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him” (I Corinthians 2:9). Jesus came to build the temple of the Lord and by faith in Him, you can know that you are part of the living temple, together with all those who live with God and for God today and with whom God will dwell in all His glory in the future!
